Events in Kødbyen
Before you submit your application
In the assessment of the application, consideration is given to the daily operations in Kødbyen. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on whether the event supports the City Council's visions focusing on "Meat and Creativity". This means that events in Kødbyen should focus on the production, sale, and development of food ("Meat") and/or the creation of original/innovative ideas and products, including innovation and art ("Creativity").
Before you submit your application, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the "Terms for events in The MeatPacking District".
If you are applying for permission for music events, it is also important that you familiarize yourself with the "Regulation outdoor music events March 2019".
It is not possible to hold private gatherings such as company events, weddings, etc.
How to Apply
If you wish to hold an event in Kødbyen, you must apply for permission from Københavns Ejendomme (KEJD). Please note that you will be charged a rental fee regardless of size and/or organizer.
You apply for the permission by completing the application form at the bottom of this page, where you fill in the yellow fields in the form and send it and all necessary attachments to kodbyen.tilladelser@okf.kk.dk.
If you are granted permission for the event, a rental contract will also be drawn up.
It may be necessary to obtain permits from other authorities, either before/after you have received permission from Københavns Ejendomme (KEJD). See more information further down the page.
Specific to the Meat Stalls, Butcher Stalls, and Høkerboerne
Please note that if you want to hold an event in Høkerboderne, Slagterboderne, or Kødboderne, you must apply for the permit from the Center for City Life, not KEJD. You can find the application to the Center for City Life here: Apply for a permit for your outdoor event.
Specific to Tenants in Kødbyen
If you are a tenant in Kødbyen and already rent an outdoor area or have a permit for outdoor service, and you wish to apply for permission for an event on your area, you are exempt from the requirement for payment, as well as a rental contract. However, you still need to apply for the event permit in the same way as others.
If your event is to be held in areas outside your permitted outdoor area, you will be charged a rental fee for the extra area.
Permits from Other Authorities
You are required to obtain the necessary permits from other authorities regarding your event. Below is a non-exhaustive list.
Copenhagen Police
You must always obtain a permit from Copenhagen Police through Service and Permits | Police. Please note that for security and order reasons, the Police may require you to submit a security plan no later than 1 month before the event.
You also need a permit from Copenhagen Police if you intend to sell alcohol at your event. Either you already have a permanent permit, or you need to obtain a temporary permit. You can find the application form on the police website.
Center for Buildings
You must apply for a building permit to host your event in the following cases:
- The event is held in a protected area (download a map of protected areas at the bottom of the page)
- The event is for more than 150 people at the same time.
- The event lasts longer than 6 weeks.
- You will set up non-certified structures (such as stages, tents, or grandstands)
Find out whether your event requires a building permit and how to apply at Apply for a permit for your outdoor event.
For your building case to be processed, you must have a power of attorney from Københavns Ejendomme. You can only apply for this after obtaining an event permit from Københavns Ejendomme. So, you need to plan well in advance if you intend to hold an event. The power of attorney is applied for here: Application for power of attorney | City of Copenhagen's website (kk.dk).
Center for City Life
If your event is to take place wholly or partially on private common road, i.e., on the road area along Øksnehallen closest to the Central Station and/or Staldgade from Halmtorvet to Ingerslevsgade, you must, in addition to our permit, subsequently obtain a permit from Center for City Life, which also needs to approve the event. Application is done through Apply for a permit for your outdoor event.
If you want to hold an event in Høkerboderne, Slagterboderne, or Kødboderne, you do not need a permit from Københavns Ejendomme & Indkøb. Instead, you should apply for a permit from Center for City Life. Application is done through Apply for a permit for your outdoor event.
The Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces
The Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces (SLKS) must be notified of larger events (over 150 people per day) that do not disturb the surface of a protected area. This applies to events within the marked event and recreational zones (see BUILDING AND URBAN SPACE MANUAL FOR THE WHITE MEAT DISTRICT p. 8).
You must officially apply for permission from SLKS if the surface of a protected area is disturbed or if buildings/tents are erected that have characteristics of permanent or semi-permanent structures. This applies regardless of where in Kødbyen the event takes place.
Processing Time
Permits for events vary in complexity and processing time, and therefore have different application deadlines. This means that if you have not applied with enough time, you cannot be sure that your application will be processed by all authorities in time. Københavns Ejendomme tries to process cases as quickly as possible but prioritizes workload continuously. In most cases, the case handler will directly contact the applicant to clarify whether it is realistic to obtain the necessary permits before the event.
